Week of November 8,  2015

The lesson for the week  is : "Hope - Don't Stop Hoping"

Scripture:  Romans 5:1

Guest Speaker: Elder Calvin Kidd

As Christians, our hope is found in Jesus Christ. We keep our hope in Christ because we know that He is able.

We all have something to be answered in our lives. Being a child of God means that we continue to hope for the better. We know that prayer changes things. Sometimes we allow things (distress, persecution) to separate us from the love of Christ. We need to remember that we are more than conquerors through Him that loves us.

In Christ we have everything we need. We must continue to believe, have faith and have hope because God will work all things out for our good.

Week of November 1, 2015

The lesson for the week is: "Are You Sure You Want to Get Married?"

Scripture: I Corinthians 7:27

There are two types of relationships:

1. interpersonal - a relationship between you and someone else.

2. intrapersonal - a relationship you have with yourself first.

Until your intrapersonal relationship is set, you will fail at interpersonal relationships.

God did not create a married person first. Whatever is created first is what you should build off of. God began with a single human being.

Most unmarried people think they want to get married because they don't know the advantage to being single. Marriage doesn't make you better; it exposes your secrets. You must have knowledge of what marriage is. According to the bible, marriage isn't for everyone. Marriage is meant to last forever.

Week of October 25,  2015

The lesson for the week  is : "Storms Will Come"

Scripture:  Ephesians 6:13

Being a Christian does not exclude storms from entering our lives. Satan tries to discourage us from living a life acceptable to God. God has never said that storms will not come, but He has said that He will always be with us.

Because we are human, we don't know how to handle storms. There are four basic types of storms.

1. Normal storms - these are storms that can't be avoided; we have done nothing wrong in our Christian walk (John 16:33).

2. Storms engineered by our own foolishness - these storms occur by being disobedient to God (Jonah, Chapter 1) or we have done something that we know we should not have done (Ephesians 5:15).

3. Storms that God allows us to go through because we are in His will - these storms result in us growing stronger (Mark 4:35). We must remember that God will hold us up (James 1:2).

4. Storms that we are dragged into by others - the folks we hang with or the people that we love with take us through a storm not intended for us (Acts 27:9-14).

We all go through storms, but when the world goes through a storm, they have to deal with it themselves; but children of God going through a storm must know what type of storm they are in and that God is with them. God will handle it.

Week of October 18, 2015

The lesson for the week: "Give It To Jesus"

Scripture: Matthew 11:28-30

What is meant by the lesson title? Picture a man carrying a very heavy load, trying to get from Point A to Point B. Suddenly, a stranger appears and lightens the heavy load.

In verse 27 of the scripture, Jesus shows that He is connected to the Father; hence the Father has given Him all power. Jesus is speaking to sinners; He wants all of our problems. We will try to fix our problems ourselves, rather than give them to Jesus. When we totally give ourselves to Christ, we will get stronger.

We must remember that God will hold us up. His yoke is easy. We must turn our problems over to God. We must trust God. Whatever situation we are in, God is with us and we can handle it. We must continue to pray that God will point us in the right direction. We must never be ashamed of Christ.

Week of October 12,  2015

The lesson for the week  is : "Our Faith Must Continue"

Scripture:  Hebrews 11:1

Our faith has been our bridge and has brought us a long way. We need to thank God for what He has done for a small, yet 'big' congregation and for the growth and zeal of the congregation.

We need to remind ourselves from time to time that faith has brought us a long way and that our faith has brought us from hate to love. Our faith means that we are always ready to work in and work for the kingdom of God.

We have received the Holy Spirit as a gift; the Holy Spirit is a personality and is referred to as 'he', not 'it'. The Holy Spirit is always present, as the Father and Son are always present. The Holy Spirit leads and guides. The Holy Spirit doesn't make us holler and jump - when that happens, we are thinking of and thankful for what God has done for us.

Week of October 04, 2015

The lesson for the week  is : "Be Ye Steadfast and Unmoveable"

Scripture:  I Corinthians 15:58

Paul was writing this letter to the church at Corinth. There are three declarations found in this text.

1. I declare I will be steadfast.

--the church at Corinth wanted to live right but they were fighting the world

--you must live life (look like) you have been purchased by the blood of Christ

2. I declare that I will be unmoveable.

-- unmoveable means to be sturdy

--there will be storms that will try to move you

--anything contrary to the word of God takes you backwards

3. I will always be abounding.

--Christians begin as babes (seed); are nutured by the Word (bud); blossom into maturity (flower) in Christ.

Remember that God has brought you a very long way. Some people have died and some people have left the faith. Don't stop praising God; need to be steadfast. Quitting is not an option for the people of God.
